Mangaluru: MLA UT Khader on Saturday questioned the need for the new wholesale fruits and vegetable market at the APMC yard in Baikampady here.
Khader said that more than 50 per cent of the trading units in the yard are already unoccupied and those occupied are not doing good business.
“In such a situation what is the need to develop a new market by using the cess collected from the traders which could have been utilised for their welfare instead,” he added.
“I will be writing to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to stop the project and send a high-level team to assess the requirement of the market there,” Khader said.
The foundation for the new wholesale market at the APMC yard was laid recently which is estimated to cost Rs 12 crore.
