Mangaluru: Amid a steady rise in COVID-19 cases in Kerala, the Karnataka government made RT-PCR tests mandatory for those coming from Kerala.
Following this, hundreds of commuters from Kerala were sent back by Dakshina Kannada police at the Talapady border on Monday for not having RT-PCR negative report. Passengers from Kerala also staged a road roko at the spot for some time.
ADGP Pratap Reddy visited the Talapady check post on Tuesday, August 3. Taking cognisance of the issues, Reddy said, ” Kerala travellers must produce a negative RT- PCR certificate that is not older than 72 hours. It is mandatory for all passengers coming to Karnataka by flight, bus, train and personal transport. Students from Kerala will be allowed to enter after they produce the hall ticket and college identification card.”
He further said, ” In order to avoid confusion, we are also holding talks with the concerned officials in Kerala. These restrictions will remain in place till there is a drop in the number of Covid-19 cases in Kerala.”
