Bengaluru: Three youth from a village in Rajasthan infamous for being home to many vehicle thieves were arrested by police here.
The three men identified as Vikas Kumar (20), Dashrath (20) and Dhavaldas (21) were working in the city before losing jobs due to the COVID-19 induced lockdown last year.
After returning to their village they were inspired by others there to take to vehicle robbery.
Kumar and Dhavaldas returned to Bengaluru and would call Dashrath, a professional vehicle mechanic, when they had zeroed in on a vehicle.
Dashrath would arrive in Bengaluru and the trio would steal two-wheelers at night and hide them in the forest near Andrahalli.
Later, they would download registration documents of two wheelers from used vehicle retailing websites, change the vehicles registration plate and print the documents after changing a few details in them.
They knew very well that the police never checks the chassis and engine numbers on the registration papers but only the registration number.
After seven months of their successful robbery stint, the police finally caught up to their operations.
Police tracked them to Rajasthan and found four stolen motorbikes there.
