Mangaluru: After raiding the house of the son of former MLA Idinabba on Wednesday, National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials on Friday detained Ammar Abdul Rahman, Idinabba’s grandson for having links with the terrorist group Islamic State.

Wednesday’s raid was conducted on a case related to Idinabba’s granddaughter Ajmal who along with her husband and children migrated to Syria to join ISIS.

Rahman and his sister-in-law are suspected to have collected funds for ISIS and even shared positive messages for the group on social media.

Rahman’s sister-in-law, originally a Hindu, had converted to Islam to marry Rahman after meeting him while pursuing a dental degree in the city here.

NIA, reportedly, has also found evidence against Rahman and his wife for recruiting young people from Karnataka, Kerala, and Kashmir for ISIS.

Rahman’s sister-in-law has not been detained along with him.
