Karwar: A newly married inter-caste couple approached the district superintendent of police for protection after the bride’s family threatened them with dire consequences.
The couple, Neelakanta Naik and Vasudha Hegde from Hegdekatta village in Sirsi taluk claimed that they both are majors and got married with mutual consent in the sub-registrar’s office at Ankola in Uttara Kannada district.
However, the parents of the girl opposed their relationship as the boy belongs to a different caste. They also filed a complaint of kidnap in Sirsi police station against Neelakanta.
The couple alleged that Vasudha’s relatives posed death threats to them after they uploaded their marriage picture on social media.
It is said that they threatened to attack them if they return to their village. They have now approached the local police seeking protection.
