Former MLA Ramanath Rai on Monday came down heavily on CT Ravi for his remarks against former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

Speaking to the reporters, Rai said, ” We strongly condemn the statements made by the BJP leaders against freedom fighters. BJP leaders have been insulting national leaders, who fought for Independence and they call Nathuram Godse, who killed Mahatma Gandhi, a patriot. C T Ravi, who made ‘hookah bar’ remarks against Jawaharlal Nehru, is an anti-national.”

“We enjoy democracy only because of our freedom fighters.  It is unfortunate that some BJP leaders are engaged in insulting freedom fighters through their statements. The BJP calls us slaves of the Nehru family, but we are happy for not being slaves of corporate companies like they do. CT Ravi has also failed to support Kannadigas, instead, he speaks in favour of Tamil Nadu. ” he added.

Rai further said, ” BJP is trying to change the name of Indira canteen. Indira Gandhi has worked towards the upliftment of the poor and launched people-friendly projects.”

Talking about the clash during the Independence day celebrations at Kabaka, he said, “The government and district administration are responsible for the clash. During the Congress government, not even a single clash occurred during Independence Day events. BJP cannot conduct the events smoothly” he added.

District Congress president Harish Kumar, district Youth Congress president Lukman Bantwal, corporator Shashidhar Hegde, Congress leader Naveen D’Souza, Harinath, Prathibha Kulai, Ibrahim Kodijal, PV Mohan and others were present.
