Bengaluru: Karnataka High Court on Monday observed prima facie that interrogation of school children by police in a sedition case was a “serious case of violation of rights of children”.

HC pointed out that it was a serious violation of the provisions under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 as the policemen were wearing uniforms and were carrying their weapons during the interrogation.

The court also sought details of action taken against the police personnel.

The observation was made by a division bench comprising of Chief Justice Abhay Oka and Justice NS Sanjay Gowda.

The sedition case was filed over a play opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act staged last year at Shaheen Education Society.

the Headmistress of the school, as well as a parent of a child, were arrested. They were later released on bail.
