Bengaluru: The Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Belagavi has issued closure orders to six engineering colleges over poor facilities.

The decision was made in an Executive Council meeting held recently.

The order states that no admissions to these colleges will be recognised from the academic year 2021-22 and also notifies the general public from taking admissions in them for any courses.

The six colleges are Alpha College of Engineering, Bengaluru; Shaikh College of Engineering, Belagavi; Islamiah Institute of Technology, Bengaluru; Ekalavya Institute of Technology, Chamarajnagar; Sri Vinayaka Institute of Technology, KGF and BTL Institute of Technology and Management in Bengaluru.

University officials stated that bad infrastructure, unfilled seats, and poor quality of teaching were the reasons for the colleges to be shut.

They added that students who have already taken admissions to these colleges will be shifted to other colleges.

Since 2009, 12 colleges affiliated with the VTU have been closed for varied reasons out of which 6 were closed in the academic years 2018-19 and 2019-20.
