Mangaluru: Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra KV has ordered the stopping of all undergraduate and postgraduate classes in the Dakshina Kannada district till September 15 as the COVID-19 positivity rate of the district has risen to 2.4 per cent.

He made this decision in a meeting held at his office on Thursday.

“If the positivity rate in the district decreases by September 15, then a meeting will be held with college managements to discuss and take steps to start physical classes. Science students will be allowed to attend practical classes in batches and in accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines. Students of all other disciplines will continue with online classes,” the DC said.

“The teaching and non-teaching staff of colleges must get vaccinated and submit proof of it to the college administration. Network issues are causing some rural students difficulties to attend online classes. The district administration will find an alternative to it and arrange for such students to attend classes,” he added.

ADC Dr Pragya Ammambal, Mangaluru University’s Registrar (Administration) Kishore K, College Education Special Officer Jayakar Bhandari, Nitte University Nodal Officer Dr Danish and others were present in the meeting.
