Bengaluru: Techie joins college as guard, steals computer parts worth Rs 35 lakh; Arrested

Bengaluru: A 27-year-old techie has been arrested for stealing computer accessories worth over Rs 35 lakh from a private engineering college in Bagalur, Bengaluru.

The accused has been identified as Raj Patra from Odisha who is an electronics engineer. It is said that he had joined as a security guard in the college with a plan to commit the robbery.

Patra joined the college in mid-April and used duplicate keys sometimes to enter into the computer room and would dismantle the system from the windows.

Patra had stolen over 200 computers between July 5 and July 11. The theft came to light on July 13 when one of the staff tried operating the systems and found the parts missing from hard disks.

It is said that he had committed a similar offense at an engineering college in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha by joining as a security guard.
