Mangaluru: Joseph (Joe) Gonsalves, the city’s ever-young Chief Traffic Warden breathed his last at Father Muller Hospital on Sunday. He was 99.

Born on January 1, 1921, Joe took charge as traffic warden chief of the city in 2015. He was aged 94 then.

After his retirement, Joe thought of becoming a traffic warden with the intent of serving society. He urged young people to volunteer and join the squad in large numbers.

The energetic nonagenarian was often seen managing the traffic at hotspots in the city with a smile on his face.

He regularly held interactions with youngsters on safe driving and other important issues. In the year 2019, city police felicitated him for doing a commendable job in managing the traffic.

Till the end, Joe was actively involved in social service.
