Udupi: M Kurma Rao officially took over as the new deputy commissioner of the district on Wednesday.

Speaking later he said that he was glad to be meeting school students on the first day of his work.

Rao went on a tour of the Government Girls College and said was happy with the arrangements there as well as the high attendance of students.

“Presently, the pandemic is the top-most concern. We have to get the non-vaccinated jabbed soon,” he said.

Reacting to the extension of the weekend curfew in the district he stated that he will hold a meeting with the concerned officials and will issue a statement after that.

“The outgoing DC G Jagadeesha has appraised me about the situation in the district. I will tour and learn from the citizens about their concerns and take action wherever necessary,” Rao said.
