5.22 lakh people register for e-library in Udupi district

Udupi: The “Digital Public Library” launched by the State’s Public Libraries Department has received a good response in Udupi district with more than 5 lakh people registering for it so far.

Launched by the department in February 2020, the digital library facility has received a widespread positive response from literature lovers and students.

A total of 5,22,281 people have registered in the 17 months since the digital library was started where members can access e-content including e-books and videos.

A total of 5,22,281 people registered in Udupi district library, 2,63,229 in Kundapur taluk library 55,713 in Karkala taluk library, 52,377 in Saligrama library 39,165 in Kaup town council library, 1,04,521 in Byndoor town council library 557 in Hebri library and 1,209 in Udupi’s central library.

The district has come sixth place in registration in the State after Bengaluru Urban (17.94 lakh), Dakshina Kannada (17.13 lakh), Kalaburagi (16.68 lakh), Hassan (10.39 lakh) and Gadag (8.97 lakh).

About 1,18,000 registrations in the district are from students who are mostly accessing e-books related to other competitive examinations including KAS.

“The use of the digital public library has increased in the district since COVID-19 started. More than 5 lakh people have registered in the district. The number of registrations will increase further in the coming days. The digital public library project has been successful with the efforts of the director of the Public Libraries Department Satish Kumar Hosamani,” said Nalini GI, Chief Librarian, Udupi district library.
