Bantwal: A 12-year-old boy died after falling into a water-filled red stone quarry at Barekadu on Saturday, September 4.

The deceased is identified as Sawad, son of Sadik.

Reportedly, the boy slipped and fell into the quarry filled with rainwater when he was playing with other children.

Other children who were playing with him, rushed home and informed their families soon after the boy fell.

The locals rushed to the spot, rescued the boy up from the quarry and admitted him to a private hospital. The doctors however declared the boy dead on arrival.

His post-mortem was conducted at Bantwal government hospital.

The illegal red stone quarry at Barekadu was left open without closing the pit. Rain water had filled in the over 20-feet deep quarry.

Locals alleged that failure to close the quarry has caused the tragedy.
