Bengaluru: Recently, a robbery attempt was foiled by passersby in Bengaluru as people caught the robber and thrashed him. Now, in a bizarre turn of events, the robber has filed a police complaint demanding legal action against people who beat him up.

The accused identified as  Ritesh Jayakumar (18), a resident of Domlur in Bengaluru, barged into a parked cab on September 2 afternoon, threatened cab driver Pratap Patil at knifepoint and asked him to hand over his wallet and mobile phone.

Patil managed to push Jayakumar out of the car and raised an alarm. The passerby then caught the accused and thrashed him. However, as the people tried to pin him down, he managed to flee from the custody of the passersby.

Based on the cab driver, Patil’s complaint, the police traced Jayakumar and registered a case against him. Jayakumar has now filed a counter-complaint seeking action against the crowd who beat him up.

Police have registered a case against the crowd under sections 341 (wrongful constraint) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC.
