Counting of votes for local body polls in Karnataka underway

Bengaluru: The counting of votes for three North Karnataka, Belagavi, Hubballi-Dharwad and Kalaburagi, civic bodies is underway. The results will be announced today by the State Election Commission.
Strict police security has been deployed at all the centers. Only the candidates and their election agents will be allowed inside the counting center.
COVID-19 appropriate behaviour will be strictly maintained at the counting centres and those with election counting pass will have to wear face masks and maintain social distancing.
According to State Election Commission officials, 300 candidates are in fray in Kalaburagi for 55 seats whereas in Hubballi-Dharwad with 82 wards, 420 are contesting.
In Belagavi with 58 wards, 519 candidates are in the fray.
BJP is under pressure to win all three corporations. Especially, Hubballi-Dharwad as it has been the party’s stronghold for more than two decades. Also, it is the hometown of chief minister Basavaraj Bommai, Union minister Pralhad Joshi and senior BJP member Jagadish Shettar.
The polls for three corporations were held on September 3 by adhering to COVID-19 protocols.
