For the last 15 years, Police sub-inspector Poovappa and his wife, Ragini have been feeding street dogs every day.

Poovappa is a reserve police sub-inspector in Mangaluru and has completed 32 years of service. He along with his wife feed a number of street dogs with non-vegetarian food on a daily basis.

They stay in the police quarters in Hampankatta. The food provided to the dogs includes only chicken, leg pieces, and other good quality food. The food is prepared by Ragini and she even makes sure that no leftovers or stale food are fed to the canines.

An estimate of about Rs.15000 is spent by the couple for feeding the dogs.

When the dogs are found sick, the couple provides treatment, and milk and biscuits are fed to them.

Times when Poovappa and Ragini are away in case of emergencies, Poovappa’s colleagues provide food to the dogs.

The couple finds solace in feeding the stray dogs and their noble work has been appreciated by many.
