After months-long protest by the social activists against the renaming of the Mangaluru international airport as Adani airport, the brand name ‘Adani’ has finally been removed from the airport boards on Friday.
Many had expressed opposition to handing over this airport to private operators and also about its name change. Details obtained through an RTI query had revealed that the operating company cannot tag its name with the airport, which is fully under the Civil Aviation Ministry.
Speaking to the reporters on Saturday, social activist Dilraj Alva said, “The activists had written to the Airports Authority of India saying that changing the name of the airport is a violation of rules as the agreement with the company which has only been given permission to operate and maintain the airport.”
“Due to the legal battle, Adani group has been forced to remove its brand name ‘Adani’ from the airport boards,” he added.
