Dumas: A haunted beach in Gujarat’s Surat

Located 21km southwest of Surat city, Dumas beach is one of the most popular beaches in Gujarat. Despite being one of the most beautiful beaches, Dumas beach is home to paranormal activities.

A quick Google search will tell you that Dumas beach is among the most haunted places in India. Although there are conflicting information available on the internet, there are people who have experienced the presence of something supernatural.

The prime reason why Dumas beach is considered haunted is that it was an ancient burial ground for Hindus. People believe that spirits still roam around and their whispers can be heard.

All blame to the rumors or the actual presence of ghosts, the beach is usually secluded at night.

Another thing the beach is famous for is the black sand. Some say that the departed souls of the evil spirits roam the beach at midnight and the reason why for the formation of black sand.

As per reports, many tourists and locals have gone missing from Dumas beach. Apparently, a man was found dead on the beach with his tongue popping out. And there is absolutely no one who could explain the reason behind all these mishaps.

How to get there

Visitors can reach Surat via road from Mumbai, which is approx 283 kilometers (175.8 miles) and takes around five hours. Or they can go from Ahmedabad, approx 263 kilometers (163.4 miles) and taking around four hours. The journey can also be made from Vadodara, approx 153 kilometers (95 miles) via NH48, or via rail or air – and from Surat city, catch a taxi/cab for Dumas Beach, which is just 18 kilometers (11.1 miles) away.
