Women pose as customers, steal over Rs 2.6L gold from reputed showroom; arrested

Puttur: Police arrested three women for alleged theft of gold, valuing over Rs 2,60,000 from Jos Alukkas showroom here, after posing as customers.

On September 1 afternoon, three burqa-clad women, namely Bibijaan, Hussainabi and Jaithumbi arrived at the showroom wanting to purchase gold earrings. Thinking they were genuine customers, the salesman began showing them earrings which were placed on a tray for them to choose from.

The trio is said to have purchased a gold ring worth Rs 13,400 by providing false address and mobile number and in the interim, they stole earrings weighing 50.242 gram worth Rs 2,60,400.

The police identified the accused based on the CCTV footage and arrested them from Biramalegudde. The stolen gold has been confiscated from their possession.
