A woman hailing from H Rampura village in Davanagere wrote a letter to Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, stating her demands before she get married.
In her mail, she stated that her village has no roads or bus services and due to this, she was forced to stay at a hostel.
Bindu R D a resident of H Rampura village in Davanagere district sent the mail to the chief minister on September 9. She demanded the construction of roads and a bus service to her village and a bus service to the village.
Bindu is a postgraduate in Economics from Davangere University works as a teacher. She said she cannot get married and leave her native place till roads are built as there won’t be anyone left to fight otherwise.
Bindu asserted that she had to walk at least 14-km every day to reach the nearest school and further informed that many women dropped out of school.
The Indian Express quoted her, “My elders told me that the demand for roads has been on since India became independent but still, I decided to write to the chief minister. Not just students, even if we have to go to the nearest primary health centre, we need to walk as there is no bus service or even a road. Farmers here are unable to take their agricultural products to the city on time as no carrier vehicle wants to come to the village as the road is in a bad condition.”
Davangere Deputy Commissioner Shri. Mahantesh Belagi visited H Rampura on September 16, where he directed local officials to begin work on connecting roads starting Friday.
“Bindu’s plea has drawn the attention of the CM and Chief Secretary as well. They have directed us to asphalt roads and to operate buses. We will be starting bus services shortly,” Belagi told.
