Mangaluru: The valedictory ceremony of a month-long training programme for police aspirants was held at St Aloysius Gonzaga hall on Friday, September 17.
The program was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala Dr Veerendra Heggade. Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar welcomed the gathering.
Speaking during the occasion, Dr Heggade said, ” Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar has become the son of Dakshina Kannada and it is always good to see his love towards Tulu language and its culture. Also, a month-long crash course was held for the police aspirants, despite the training being tough, none of them backed out which is a very good sign.”
He further said, ” It is a very respectable profession but a few movies project police in a bad way for comic relief. It is a very dangerous trend as people will take police lightly after watching such movies.”
On August 9, in an attempt to encourage people from Dakshina Kannada district to join the police force, the Mangaluru city police launched a month-long workshop for police aspirants.
734 aspirants registered themselves and on August 13, screening test was done and aspirants were selected for training on August 16.
