A couple in Chamarajanagar’s Ammanapura village dug a 20-ft deep pit at their house reportedly after a sorcerer told them about the possibility of a buried treasure.
The man and his wife dumped the soil so excavated in another room of the house, to keep the whole treasure hunt thing hidden from the neighbours.
Police visited the spot for an inquiry after they came to know of suspicious activity there. Upon questioning, the man said that they had approached a Kerala-based sorcerer as snakes were being found frequently in their house.
The sorcerer said that the presence of snakes suggested a hidden treasure and asked them to perform a puja and dig the ground.
Heeding his advice, the couple dug up a 20-feet pit but did not find anything, police said.
Since no complaint has been lodged, the police conducted an inquiry and sent the man away after warning him.
