Uppinangady: Weeks after a man from Nekkilady near Uppinangady went missing, rumours are rife that he had been a part of a terrorist organization that planned to set off blasts all over the country.

However, the district police say they have no such information.

Muhammed Rafique Khan (48), was running a garage near Nekkilady for the last several years. He had claimed with the support of documents that he was from Uttar Pradesh. He reportedly had good relationships with those who had dealings with him, shared Biryani made at his home to a Hindu friend, and during discussions, supported the National Register of Citizens Act, the locals recollect.

Some even said that he supported the Muslim Manch of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and expressed the desire to join the RSS.

However, a few weeks ago his second wife had filed a police complaint in Uppinangady station d, saying that he had gone missing since July 18.

While the case was under investigation, rumour about the man having links with terrorist activities and that he is one among the six persons who have been arrested by the Delhi police for links with terrorist activities, have spread in the area.

However, Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police, Rishikesh Sonawane, said that no information about the said missing man having been arrested by the Delhi police has been received, adding that the department will verify the veracity of the above rumours.
