Youth sentenced to 7-year rigorous imprisonment for sexual assault on minor

Mangaluru: A fast track court in Mangaluru has found a man guilty of abduction and sexual assault on a minor on September 28.
The accused, Balakrishna (25) from Vittal Kasba in Bantwal Taluk, had abducted a minor and sexually assaulted her on July 25, 2019. He was being tried under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Based on the facts and evidence presented, Additional Sessions Court Judge Savitri V Bhat found the undertrial guilty under the POCSO Act and sentenced him to seven years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 75,000 for sexual assault. Additionally, the court also ordered years of rigorous imprisonment and Rs 10,000 for abduction.
The accused was further ordered to undergo an additional jail term of three months and one month for failing to pay the prescribed fines.
The judge also ordered compensation to the victim to the tune of Rs 50,000 from the fines collected.
In addition, the state government was directed to pay the victim a sum of Rs 2 lakh as compensation.
