Mangaluru: POSCO convict sentenced to ten years imprisonment

Mangaluru: The additional sessions and POCSO special court sentenced a 36-year-old man convicted of raping a minor to 10 years jail term and a penalty of Rs 16,000. The government has also been directed to release Rs three lakhs compensation to the victim.
The court found Raju guilty of repeatedly raping the victim, who happens to be his relative, and impregnating her in the year 2015. A rape case, under provisions of the POSCO Act, was registered in the women’s police station here.
As per the complaint, Raju, the victim’s mother and her elder sister were staying in a rented house near Bikarnakatte Kaikamba. Since September 2015, he allegedly raped the girl repeatedly and the incident came to light in December that year after the girl became pregnant.
Raju was arrested after a complaint was lodged against him and was in judicial custody. Meanwhile, the girl suffered an abortion. A DNA test proved that Raju was responsible for her pregnancy.
Investigating officer K Kalavathi, station PI had filed a charge sheet in the court.
Special public prosecutor, C Venkataramana Swamy, had represented the prosecution in the case.
