Jio strengthens its connectivity across Karnataka
Press Release, Oct 6, 2021, 4:17 PM IST
Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (“RJIL”) had successfully deployed an additional 5 MHz spectrum in 1800 band to enhance the subscriber experience. With this Jio has completed deployment of additional 20 MHz of spectrum across Karnataka which was acquired in the spectrum auctions conducted by the DoT in March this year.
This spectrum augmentation has further given a quantum jump on Jio’s Network experience to the entire subscriber base in Karnataka. With 60 Mhz deployed across 850Mhz, 1800 Mhz & 2300 MHz bands, network throughput has improved and has led to improvement in customer experience across Karnataka. Jio continues to be the state leader, both in terms of Deployed Sites across the state and the Network throughput it is delivering to its customers.
Considering the increased Work from Home scenarios & curtailed movements enforced from time to time, the spectrum augmentation will help a)professionals working from home b)students to continue attending classes online c)Businesses running from home to seamlessly carry out their activities while being safe at home. The enhanced connectivity & experience will certainly be of great help to medical & other frontline workers across segments who are engaged in essential work in the field
Jio has a 22.1 million subscriber base in Karnataka (as per the July TRAI report) and continues to add more subscribers across every district. Owing to the increasing demand for more 4G towers, Jio Karnataka is expanding its 4G network by 28% in 2021. Currently, Jio has over 23000 Plus true 4G network sites in the state, Karnataka’s largest 4G footprint.
Reliance Jio acquired a total of 488.35MHZ (850MHZ, 1800MHZ, and 2300MHZ included) spectrum for 22 circles in the last spectrum auction at a cost of Rs.57,123 crores for a period of 20 years. With this, Jio has increased its footprint significantly by 55% to a total of 1717 MHZ. Jio currently has 443 million subscribers and with the enhanced spectrum footprint, RJIL will enhance network capacity to service its existing users. This enhancement will also help in adding the next 300 million users that will move to digital services and towards a transition to 5G services too.
