Govt failed to allay fears about Earthquake, responsible for any mishaps: Sharanaprakash Patil

Chincholi: Former minister Dr. Sharanaparakash R Patil on October 9, accused the government of not trying to allay the apprehensions of the people in areas rocked by tremors for the past 6 years.

“The government will be responsible for any accidents that may occur,” he said addressing newsmen after inspecting the spot in Gadikeshwar village where a house partially collapsed due to the tremors.

Government officials said that an earthquake of 3.2 Richter scale intensity was reported on the morning of October 9 in Chincholi, Kalagi and other taluks in Kalaburagi. A month ago another earth tremors of 3.9 Richter scale were recorded.

Sedam MLA and Kalaburagi MPs had made a cursory visit at night to inspect the earthquake damage in Gadikeswara village. But the government has not taken steps to install a seismograph (earthquake measuring machine), he said.

“People are living in distress due to the frequent earthquakes. They hesitate to live in their house due to fears of another tremor, while they can’t live outside due to rains,” he said.

He observed that many houses in these villages are in a state of disrepair due to the heavy rainfall and this poses a higher risk of collapse if another earthquake occurs. ”Revenue Minister R Ashoka should immediately construct a shed for the people to live temporarily,” he said.

He further expressed his support for the upcoming protests and roadblocks organized by the local villagers at Hodebiranalli village to be held on October 11.
