Hanagal Bypolls: Congress & BJP quell resentment; efforts on to withdraw indepents’ nominations

Haveri: The process of filing nominations for the Hanagal assembly constituency by-elections has come to an end and the campaign has started now in full swing.
Sources said that the discontent over Congress and BJP’s choice of candidate has been quelled and every effort is being made, overtly and covertly, to persuade independent candidates to withdraw their candidature.
The scrutiny of nominations will take place on October 11. Since October 13 is the last day for withdrawal of nominations, the guessing game, as to how many candidates will remain in the fray, has begun.
Congress assures Tehsildar proper status:
Former minister Manohar Tehsildar had publically demanded that either he or any other local candidate be given a Congress ticket. Eventually, KPCC president D.K. Shivakumar and former chief minister Siddramiah had to step in and personally convince Tahshildar to accept and support Congress candidate Shrinivas Mane, sources said.
According to reports, on the day of filing the nomination, Tahsildar requested to announce the position he would be given by the party for his support. He was later pacified after a meeting held at the Hangal Kumareshwar Math.
Discontent in BJP also calms down:
The outrage in the BJP camp over the surprise selection of Shivaraj Sajjanar sidelining Revathi Udasi has now cooled down. AS soon as the protests erupted, Member of Parliament Shivakumar Udasi reached out to the disgruntled party workers and managed to pacify them. As a result, a huge crowd of BJP workers poured in a show of power during the rally held for filing nomination papers, sources said.
