Belthangady: Illegal sand mining raided at Bandaru village

Belthangady: A team headed by the deputy inspector general of police Krishnakant A, conducted raids at illegal sand mining operations at Batladka in Bandaru village.
During the searches, the sleuths found that sand was being illegally dredged from the Netravati river. They also seized assets worth over Rs 39 lakh from the spot, sources said.
According to sources, police had been tipped off that persons named Sandesh and Jagadeesh were illegally removing and transporting sand from the river.
The police have confiscated a dredging machine, a Hitachi, and 4 sand-filled tipper lorries. However, the culprits managed to escape from the police.
The police have estimated the value of the seized equipment at Rs 39 lakh and sand valued at Rs 16,000.
Dharmasthala police have registered a complaint no. 60-2021 under Section 34 and 379 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
