Karwar: Massive fire breaks out after chemical tanker capsizes at Arbail Ghat

Karwar: A tanker carrying chemicals overturned and a massive fire broke out at Arbail Ghat on Ankola-Yellapur highway on Wednesday morning.

It is said that a tanker carrying benzene from a subsidiary company of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) to a paint firm in Gujarat met with an accident at Arbali ghat.

There has been no loss of life as the driver and cleaner managed to jump out of the vehicle. Fire tenders and police rushed to the spot and doused the fire.

At least 2 km of green cover was affected due to the fire. Traffic on this road was closed following the fire accident.

Manoj Ranjan, commissioner of Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) said that action as per the standard operating procedure for chemical spillage is being followed.
