Udupi: Police arrest robber and seize two bikes, mobile phones, cash

Udupi police officials have arrested a man accused of theft at a hospital in Bannanje and have seized two bikes, mobile phones, cash from him.
The accused have been identified as Suresh Poojary (40), a resident of Acchottu Darkhas House in Athoor village, Nitte Karkala taluk.
As per the complaint registered by Dr. Shakila Sachin, an ophthalmologist at Manjunatha Eye Hospital in Bannanje, unknown miscreant had smashed open the hospital’s shutter on September 23 night, flipped the lock on the room’s drawer, and stole Rs 4,74,500 from the lower drawer and the reception counter. The CCTV DVR was also taken, with a total value of Rs 4,79,500 for the stolen items.
Police officials examined the CCTV cameras and the physical attributes of the man matched those of Suresh Poojary, who was facing a case in Karkala. On October 11, town police station head constable Lokesh and constable Santosh Rathod apprehended him near the KSRTC bus terminal here.
He confessed to have been engaged in the thefts of a motorbike from Malpe society and another bike from Garadi road. His possessions were seized, including Rs 4,32,000 in cash, two motorcycles, and two cellphones.
District superintendent of police N Vishnuvardhan, additional police superintendent Kumar Chandra, and deputy superintendent of police Sudhakar Sadanand Naik directed the inquiry. So far, he has been charged in 11 instances that have been filed in the police stations of Shirva, Hiriadka, Karkala town, Padubidri, Mulki, Belagavi, and Davanagere.
