Mysuru: A man-eating tiger that was trapped in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu, after being twice hit by tranquilizer darts will be treated at the Mysuru Zoo.

Code-named T23, the 13-year-old tiger, sustained injuries possibly after fighting with other young tigers. It was earlier supposed to be shifted to the Vandalur zoo, but after consultation with the National Tiger Conservation Authority, it was sent to Mysuru zoo for treatment. The medical team has been monitoring the injured tiger.

Notably, this is the first time that a problematic tiger has been caught alive in Tamil Nadu.

Amid reports of forest officials receiving orders to shoot the tiger, wildlife activists had approached the Madras High Court which directed the officials to trap the animal without killing it. The court, passing interim orders on a petition last week praying for a direction to ensure that the tiger is captured alive and no steps were taken to put it to sleep or otherwise kill it, asked the officials to see to it that few people enter the forest to capture the big cat.

As many as 100 people, including a few from Kerala and Karnataka, two tamed elephants and three sniffer dogs, were involved in the search operations to trap the elusive tiger.
