Bengaluru: The bad quality of roads in the city has forced people to “worship” and “appease” a new deity ‘Pothole Amma’ to spare the commuters’ lives.
Earlier on the occasion of Ayudha Puja, activists and alumni from the B.Clip (Programme by the Bangalore Political Action Committee) had “worshipped” the ‘Pothole Amma’ near Chalukya junction. The group members said that they tried black humor to draw the authorities’ attention to the problem.
The new deity has now gained more followers with more Pujas being offered.
On Sunday, activists of a little-known local political party Karnataka Rashtra Samiti offered special prayers and puja to the deity on potholes in all eight BBMP zones asking for safety on the roads.
“Despite a high court order, BBMP officials are yet to wake up and fill up the potholes. Citizens should be able to travel on city roads without fearing accidents,” the party said in a statement reported by Deccan Herald.
These unique prayers humorously questioned the quality of roads on which the state government has spent a huge sum of Rs 20,000 crore.
