Doctors treating a man with gastrointestinal pain were taken aback when they discovered a mobile phone in his stomach.
The Egyptian man had reportedly swallowed the phone some six months back. Out of embarrassment, he did not seek medical aid and hoped for the device to naturally pass through his body. Unluckily for him, the phone became lodged in his stomach, preventing food from properly moving through his body.
He finally decided to go to the doctor when his abdomen symptoms became unbearable. The physicians were startled to discover a full phone inside him when they ran an X-ray scan of his stomach.
The unidentified man had emergency surgery to treat potentially life-threatening injuries such as intestinal and stomach infections.
The operation was done at the Aswan University Hospital in Aswan, Upper Egypt.
According to Gulf Today, the head of the board of directors of Aswan University Hospitals, Mohamed El-Dahshoury, claimed it was the first time they had witnessed a case in which a patient had swallowed a whole mobile phone.
The man’s health has not been updated, but it is expected that he will make a full recovery.
