Mangaluru: A rowdy sheeter allegedly brandished and swung a sword at the police personnel who went to arrest him with a court warrant.
The incident took place on Thursday, October 21 morning when Ullal police personnel went to arrest Mukhtar Ahmed, a resident of Dharmanagara after a court issued a warrant against him irked by his failure to present himself in the court.
Upon seeing the police, Mukhtar threatened the police with a sword and fled the scene on a bike with his accomplice Nawaz, who happens to be the brother of Dawood, main accused in the Target Illyas murder case. The police gave them a chase and managed to waylaid them at Thokottu over bridge.
Mukthar yet again managed to give the police a slip while Nawaz rammed his bike against a car while trying to escape.
One of the police personnel identified as Vasu tried to nab Mukhtar while he tried to flee on the bike but the latter swung the sword at him. Vasu narrowly missed getting hurt by the sword.
