Udupi: In a news that could bring much-needed respite for the people of Udupi, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shobha Karandlaje on October 21 announced that the union government has sanctioned overpasses at Ambalpady and Santhekatte on National Highway 66.
“Vehicular overpasses have been sanctioned by the central government at Ambalpady and Santhekatte of NH 66. The central government has sanctioned Rs 50 crore for the construction of two vehicular overpasses,” she said in a press release.
The Udupi-Chkkamagaluru MP also said, “For the ease of vehicular and pedestrian movement, the central government has approved construction of vehicular overpass in these areas. The tender process has been completed and the work will begin soon. I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari for making this happen.”
People of the district have been demanding an overpass at the Ambalpady and Santhekatte junctions. The huge traffic jams and frequent accidents at these key junctions on the highway have become a bane of commuters.
The situation was so bad that these junctions with four connecting roads were identified as “black spot zones”.
