Vijayapura: Police have arrested a man after a video and photos of voting during Sindagi bypolls went viral on social media on Saturday.
During the byelections of the Sindagi assembly constituency via a secret ballot two incidents of breach of poll code were reported.
Reports said that the voter shared a clipping of a video on social media saying he had voted for JD(S) candidate Nazia Angadi and it soon went viral. Another voter publically shared a photo of his vote to BJP candidate Ramesh Bhasanur registered on the VVPAT machine.
The district administration took cognizance of the matter and detected that the video was recorded at polling booth number 135.
The Deputy Commissioner of the district informed that it is illegal to take mobiles or any other recording device into the polling station. Some voters have violated the law by publically sharing the video and photographs on social media and violated the secrecy of the voting process. A police complaint has been registered and an accused has been taken into custody, he said.
