An underrated herb, with numerous benefits

Lavancha also known as veti veru, khus, vetiver, belongs to the family of bunchgrass and is native to India. Despite being one of the underrated herbs, vetiver has numerous benefits for the skin and can be used as a natural coolant and cleanser.  In fact, it is a good skincare product but minus the negative effects of chemicals.

Vetiver grows on riverbanks up to an altitude of 600m. It requires a hot and humid climate. It is adaptable to a wide range of soil and climatic conditions. It can be established on very acid, sodic, alkaline, or saline soils. Vetiver tolerates very high levels of aluminum, manganese, and a range of heavy metals in the soil.  Due to its extensive and deep root system, vetiver is very tolerant of drought.

You may have used vetiver roots knowingly or unknowingly as essential oils from vetiver roots are used to make soaps, hand washes, perfumes and sherbats/syrups. They also have a common application in the medicine industry for their cooling and anti-bacterial properties.

Back in the day vetiver roots were also popularly used to make mats and carpets because of their cooling properties.

Benefits of the Vetiver plant

The lavancha plant is a natural coolant. The root of the plant keeps the skin hydrated. has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties that help fight acne, blisters, and rashes. It helps to remove dirt and dust without making the skin dehydrated. It helps remove blackheads and whiteheads and helps to unclog pores.

It is filled with antioxidants, which stop the skin’s signs of premature aging. Regular use of khus oil in different forms can make the skin youthful and firm.

The strong aroma of the vetiver essence helps in calming the body and relieves stress, reduces insomnia and its cooling properties can keep your digestive system strong.

Apart from that drinking vetiver water can help in clearing the intestinal tract and help in better digestion, which further helps in curing issues like constipation.

Apart from all this, the presence of antioxidants and alkaline properties makes vetiver root water a great drink for summers. It cools down the body

Vetiver infused water

To make vetiver water, you need a clay pot, a bunch of vetiver roots, and cool boiled water. Place the roots in the bottom of the pot. Then add the water and cover the pot. Let it rest for two to three hours. After two to three hours, your vetiver water is ready to use as you want.

Vetiver water help prevents acne, pimples and nourishes the skin internally.
