Mangaluru: Congress MLA UT Khader on Saturday said that the central and state BJP government’s decision to reduce the fuel prices was the outcome of the recent election results.
Pointing out that the government ignored the opposition and public protests over the rising fuel prices, Khader said that after the BJP suffered defeat in the elections, the Centre is trying to pacify people by reducing fuel prices marginally.
This is nothing short of a victory for the common man, the Congress leader said at a press conference here.
He further questioned the government on measures to control the price of essential commodities and asked them to issue an order to reduce the same.
With regard to the controversy over the naming of Suratkal circle after Veer Savarkar, Khader said that during the British regime several Indians courted imprisonment and even sacrificed their lives for the cause of Independence. However, he pointed out that it was Savarkar who penned an apology letter to the British that what he had done was wrong? Further, he said that the government should focus on important issues rather than indulge in naming circles.
