Grenades found at Ilanthila were manufactured 40 years ago: DK SP

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada SP Rishikesh Sonawane on Sunday informed that the five grenades which were found at Ilanthila here were manufactured 40 years ago at a military factory.

Speaking to reporters the SP said that these grenades were manufactured in a military factory. “The grenades discovered here are hand-held ones which were manufactured around 1979-83. We are investigating how these grenades ended up here,” he added.

Police seized grenades in the presence of bomb squads. Whether they are still usable is not known, the SP said.

A  retired SCO of the army, Jayakumar found the grenades at around  6 pm on Saturday, November 6, near a wire fence at Ilanthila, Belthangady Taluk while he was walking towards his house from Uppinangady.
