A case of car theft from the parking lot of a pub was reported from Bengaluru’s Ashoknagar area. Notably, the miscreant had driven off with the vehicle after producing a ‘tampered’ valet parking receipt that went unnoticed by the pub staff.
The incident took place on November 5 night when the car owner had visited the pub with his friends. He had given the keys of his Toyota Innova Crysta to the staff who said they would park it. Later when he was leaving the pub, and asked for the car keys from the valet parking staff he was said that some person had already taken the keys and driven away with the car. The incident happened when the actual valet parking receipt was in the possession of the car owner.
Upon inquiry it was found that a man, presumably in his 30s had produced an old slip by altering the date and the vehicle number. A case in this regard has been lodged with Ashiknagar police.
A police official said that had the valet parking staff been alert they would have noticed that the receipt had been tampered with. Police said that the miscreant might have picked up a discarded slip and waited till a vehicle with a number that resembled one on a slip arrived to execute his plan.
