Vandalism at Kodikal Nagabana: Police probe quickens

Mangaluru: Police have stepped up investigations to trace the accused who desecrated the Nagabana in Kodikal in Bangra Kulur ward of the city.
The probe is being conducted under the leadership of Urva police, accused in the earlier cases as well as Ganja addicts are being questioned, sources said. It is also learnt that the CCTV security cameras in the area are also being reviewed to uncover clues.
In the last month, three cases of vandalism at places of Hindu worship have come to light. On October 17, a Naganakatte at Baikampadi was found damaged. A week later on October 23, six Nagana Kallu (various forms of the serpent god carved in stones)went missing from Nagabana in Kulur. A similar incident in Kodikal near Kulur on Saturday has raised further suspicions.
Police had arrested an accused in relation to the incident at Baikampady, however, he was claimed to be mentally ill. None has been arrested so far in the Kulur incident.
BJP state president Nalin visits the spot
BJP state president and Member of Parliament, Nalin Kumar Kateel visited the Nagabana at Kodikal and took stock of the situation on Sunday. The locals urged him to take swift action to nab the culprit behind the crime and take strict action against them. On this occasion, MLA Dr Y Bharat Shetty, BJP leader Sudarshan Moodubidire, MCC corporator Kiran Kumar Kodikal and other community leaders were present. Mangaluru police commissioner N Shashi Kumar, DCP Hariram Shankar and others were also present.
Total Bandh Called for today
A peaceful, voluntary bandh will be held in Kodikal from 9 am to 6 pm on Monday demanding the arrest of the perpetrators, sources said. A peaceful protest will be held in the morning at the Katte ground and shops will be shut and bus movement will not be allowed, it is learnt.
