Loud noise from modified vehicle silencers: Karnataka HC takes suo motu cognizance

Bengaluru: Karnataka High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the menace of noise pollution by modified vehicles.
A division bench headed by Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi directed the concerned authorities to submit a report on action taken to curb noise made by modified silencers of bikes and cars. It also recommended a drive to identify noise-making vehicles and submit the action taken report before it.
The court also asked authorities to look into the nightclubs using loudspeakers and functioning in violation of the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, a Deccan Herald report said.
The directions were issued by the bench on hearing of the PILs about noise from some of the city mosques.
