Mangaluru: ‘Fake’ Health dept officials trick woman; steal gold ornaments, cash without her knowledge

Mangaluru: In a case of theft reported at Daddalkad near Urwa Store, miscreants tricked a woman into beleiving that they were health department officials of the city corporation and managed to flee with valuables and cash kept in the almirah.

As per the complaint registered at Urwa station, two persons claiming to be health department officials engaged in idle talks with the woman on the pretext of checking the cleanliness maintained in the house surrounding while one of their accomplices managed to enter the residence without the woman’s knowledge.

He opened the almirah with the keys that were kept close by and stole gold ornaments weighing around 58 grams and around Rs 71000 in cash.

Meanwhile, a neighboring lady sought to see the identity cards of the visiting officials who then said that they had kept them in their vehicles and left the scene. The robbery came to light in the evening when the woman checked her almirah and found the cash, ornaments missing.

The police are trying to nab the culprits by checking the CCTV footage in the area.
