Udupi: Two days after Prime Minister Modi announced the decision to repeal the three contentious farm laws, RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat said that the decision has been taken in the interest of the nation and was not politically motivated.

Farmers who have been agitating the agriculture laws for nearly a year now termed that their protests have proved that in a democracy, it is people’s voice that rules, not authoritarian governments. The Farmer organizations have however decided to continue the protest till the laws are officially repealed.

Opposition parties too welcomed the Centre’s move but said that the decision was taken with an eye on the upcoming polls.

Reacting to the Centre’s decision Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat said that the Prime Minister may have scrapped the laws for now as it failed to convince the farmers that the laws were for their own benefit. However, he expressed hope that the farm laws may be reintroduced after bringing about minor amendments following discussions with the stakeholders.

Furthermore, he slammed the opposition parties stating that instead of engaging in fruitful discussions with the government in the Assembly they were opposing all laws for their own political gains.
