Mangaluru: Student groups riot at Gujjarakere; Several including police injured

Mangaluru: A quarrel between two groups of students turned violent in the Gujjarakere area under Mangaluru South Police Station here on December 2. Several students and police were injured in the rioting.
The police sources said personal enmity is suspected to be the reason for the violent quarrel.
As per the police complaint by Adarsh Premkumar, a native of Kollam in Kerala and a 3rd year BSc Hospitality Science student at Yenepoya College, the attack took place at around 7.30 PM. He was meeting with a friend when Abdul Sinan and 8 others who came to the spot attacked him with interlocks and stones.
In the attack, Adarsh fractured his hand and another student Mohammad Nasif also sustained injuries. Police have taken 5 persons into custody in the case named — Aditya, Ken Johnson, Mohammad, Abdul Shahid, and Vimal.
A counter case was filed by Abdul Sinan against 7 persons. Based on this complaint, four students — Adarsh, Fahad, Abu Tahar, and Mohammad Nasif — have been detained by police.
Police, meanwhile, have registered two cases of rioting under relevant sections against both sides.
The boys also created nuisance at the hostel in Gujjarakere where they lived. The boys threw stones, chairs, and other items at PSI Sheetal, and police personnel who had gone to the hostel for deescalating the situation. Police said 5 personnel were injured.
The situation was later brought under control. Further investigations are underway.
