Udupi: In a unique protest, highlighting the sorry state of the roads here social workers conducted a mock ambulance drill here on Thursday, December 2.
The drill involved a pregnant woman being transported in an ambulance to the hospital via the Gundibail-Adkadakatte road here. The woman who was in labour however delivered before reaching the hospital due to the bumpy ride.
Notably, social workers Nithyananda Olakadu and Tharanath Mestha Shiroor had used mannequins in the drill in the hope that the district administration realises the gravity of the issue and get the roads repaired immediately.
The bad condition of the roads poses difficulty while shifting patients to hospital as well as students travelling on this route. The problem further aggravates during the rainy season, they said.
