Mangaluru: An auto-rickshaw driver suffered a massive heart attack while driving and died on the way to the hospital on Friday. The incident happened near the Netravati Bridge, sources said.
The deceased had been identified as Katipalla resident Mohammed Hanif (46).
It is gathered that Hanif was ferrying a vegetable vendor, who was a regular customer, to Global Market in Kallpu Thokkottu from Surathkal. When they reached Mangaldevi cross, Hanif complained that his vision was fading and crashed into a barricade set up on the highway.
However, instead of calling for medical help, Hanif chose to continue the journey after locals helped them clear the traffic. But by the time the rickshaw reached near Netravati Bridge Hanif collapsed.
An ambulance, which was just behind the ill-fated rickshaw, rushed Hanif to a hospital, however, doctors declared him brought dead.
A case was registered in Mangaluru rural police station.
