Chikkamagaluru: Covid surge causes concern at residential school; Cases rise to 107 in 4 days

Chikkamagaluru: The number of cases found at the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Balehonnur has risen to 107. The sudden surge in the residential school has created alarm in the district.

On Sunday, the infection was confirmed in 69 samples collected from the school. Today another 38 cases have been confirmed, taking the number of cases to 107. Out of these 94 are students at the school and 13 were teachers, sources said.

After a teacher at the school tested positive for covid, the Health department had collected the swab samples from 218 students and staff of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya.  Out of which now 107 have been confirmed to have been infected by the virus.

Meanwhile, the district administration has sealed down the school and quarantined the infected persons.

As per sources, the infected were asymptomatic and had no visible signs of infection. Health department officials have been placed at the school for monitoring the situation.
